Bakke Development, BCDC Expand Texas Portfolio

The 987-unit self storage property is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2025.

Bakke Development, in a joint venture with BCDC, has broken ground on a 104,875-square-foot self storage facility in New Braunfels, Texas. The development marks the partnership’s fifth project.

The team behind the project includes Alamo Architects Inc., civil engineer INK Civil and Independent Contractors Inc. The $10.1 million construction loan was provided by Frost Bank, according to Comal County records. The development is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2025.

Upon completion, the four-story building will include 987 climate-controlled units. The property will also feature CCTV cameras and card access systems.

The facility is taking shape on 1.9 acres at 982 Interstate 35, providing easy access to U.S. Route 337. Downtown San Antonio is within 33 miles, while Austin, Texas, is less than 50 miles north. The property will serve the community’s growing population, which has been rising significantly since 2012.

The storage facility will be one of the 23 available within a 3-mile radius, offering residents 21.4 rentable square feet of storage space per capita. The San Antonio market has 14 self storage properties under construction, set to add 1.2 million square feet to the existing inventory, Yardi Matrix data shows.

Bakke Development currently has another self storage project underway in San Antonio. The developer also has six properties in the McAllen market, including an 85,825-rentable-square-foot facility that recently broke ground. The 762-unit climate-controlled development is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2025.
