YES Housing and Maestas Development Group have begun construction of Nuevo Atrisco, a project which includes an 88-unit affordable housing component, in Albuquerque, N.M. In addition to the multifamily aspect, the project will include some 30,000 square feet of commercial space and a 20,000-square-foot community center.

The developer anticipates the community will open in May 2020, with the retail and office section opening the following year. YES Housing initially announced the project in July 2018.

Located at 7909 Central Ave. N.W. in Albuquerque’s Downtown/South Valley submarket, the Dekker Perich Sabatini-designed property will be a short distance from the Coors Boulevard retail corridor. A public transportation route will connect the development to the city center, slightly more than 4 miles to the east. Interstate 40 runs 1 mile north of the project site.

The project’s plans include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units, with a number of live-work units along the eastern edge of the site. The development falls inside an Opportunity Zone, created through the government’s tax reform initiative in 2017.
