Affirmed Housing Breaks Ground on LA Supportive Housing

Affirmed Housing has begun work on a 57-unit community dedicated to formerly homeless individuals, dubbed Aria. The five-story structure will take shape in Los Angeles’ Westlake South submarket.
Funding sources for the $28 million development include DHS project-based vouchers and HHH funds via the city’s Housing and Community Investment Department. The Tax Credit Allocation Committee, Banner Bank and Boston Capital also contributed to the Togawa Smith Martin-designed project.
Located at 1532-1538 Cambria St., Aria will be roughly 2 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The five-story permanent supportive housing project is set to include studios and one-bedroom units. The structure is slated to feature more than 1,000 square feet of common space, with amenities such as a computer room, a laundry room, bike parking and a shared kitchen. Plans also call for an outdoor courtyard.
The low-income housing development is one of the first in Los Angeles funded by the $1.2 billion HHH bond measure passed in 2016. One year ago, Affirmed Housing also broke ground on Villas on the Park in downtown San Jose, Calif., another metro struggling with its growing homelessness crisis.
