JV Converts Naval Storehouse to Live-Work Units
The property was built in 1918.

Investment and management firm Jamestown and joint venture partners Weaver Capital Partners and WECCO Development have restored North Charleston’s Naval Storehouse, converting it into a multifamily property called Storehouse Nine.
The conversion of the four-story brick navy storehouse built in 1918 has yielded 78 boutique live-work residences featuring flexible workspace formats. Included are studio and one-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 520 to 930 square feet. The property also features maker studios and first-floor retail and design showrooms. The community is not limited to those seeking to operate businesses from their units, differentiating it from other live-work-formatted developments
1940s-inspired design
The development represents Phase I of the Navy Yard Charleston mixed-use project, a broader multi-phase redevelopment transforming an 85-acre portion of the former naval base into a lively work-live enclave.
Storehouse Nine features the building’s original industrial architecture with modern utilitarian design elements, such as exposed brick walls, concrete floors, the property’s original mushroom columns and historically replicated steel frame windows. The building’s historic window openings, staircases and balustrades were carefully restored.
Unit finishes take their inspiration from 1940s design. Included are custom, cream-colored cabinetry, bronze hardware, carpentry closets and glazed porcelain tile with pencil trim and open shelving. A plaza adjacent to Storehouse Nine features a lawn and tree grove, game area, fire pit and outdoor event space. Residents also have access to nearby Riverfront Park and have complimentary membership Paradiso membership, a Charleston social offering a saltwater pool and fitness facilities.
Storehouse Nine is located within four miles of three shopping centers and is a five-minute drive to Charleston Amtrak Station. Four major colleges and universities are situated within a roughly 10-minute drive. Three months ago, West Shore acquired The Preserve at Essex Farms multifamily property in Charleston.
