UC Davis Receives Approval for 494-Bed Project
The university will break ground on the development next spring.

UC Davis has received the final approval from UC’s governing board to develop a 206-unit, 494-bed student housing community in Davis, Calif. The $100 million project is expected to break ground next spring, with completion scheduled for 2027.
Development partners include general contractor McCarthy Building Cos. and architecture and design firm Gensler. Buehler Engineering is the structural engineer and Psomas is the civil engineer, while Quadriga will provide landscaping services.
The UC Davis campus added 6,500 beds since 2017 to meet demand, given enrollment growth and undergraduate housing guarantees, according to the school. Last year, The Michaels Organization completed Orchard Park Residence Hall, a 1,549-bed student housing community, also within the campus.
Aiming for top LEED certification
The on-campus resident hall, currently dubbed Segundo Infill Project, will rise on two parking lots. The five-story building will feature two- and three-bedroom floorplans.
Common-area amenities are expected to include study nooks, social spaces, lounges and 600 bike spaces. The community will also comprise a demonstration kitchen, Zoom rooms, on-site laundry facilities and outdoor gathering areas, according to Yahoo Finance.
The entire project will be fully electric and is aiming to reach at least LEED Gold certification. The building will rise on-campus at 473 Beckett Hall Circle, less than 2 miles from the UC Davis Health Stadium and the city’s downtown. Sacramento is less than 16 miles away.
This week, UC Davis Health also partnered with McCarthy Building Cos. and SmithGroup for the ground breaking of the UC Davis Health California Tower project, a 910,000-square-foot health-care facility in Sacramento. The $3.7 billion development will rise 14 stories.
