Xeripave FeatureStormwater runoff from impervious surfaces like parking lots, roads and buildings is one of the more damaging side-effects of the built environment. Unmitigated runoff can erode waterways, cause flooding and deliver a concentrated “first flush” of polluted water into watersheds. With more stringent EPA regulations on the horizon, stormwater runoff is an important feature to consider well before breaking ground. Luckily, there are some design-friendly products aimed at allowing stormwater to flow directly into underlying soil.

16Xeripave Super Pervious (SP) Pavers is one such solution. The natural stone pavers feature an impressive flow-through rate of approximately one gallon per second, per square foot. This makes the pavers 100 times more pervious than permeable pavers, and 10 times more pervious than porous asphalt and pervious concrete. This high filtration rate typically only requires the pavers to cover 12 to 18 percent of total surface area to effectively drain the entire area. The end result is a cost effective solution that places the SP Pavers in strategic areas to capture stormwater runoff.

15The pavers start out as natural stones that are cleaned and then coated with a tough polymer before being bonded together. Different size options can be tailored for a particular situation, and certain SP Pavers are designed to withstand light vehicular traffic. All are suitable for pedestrians since they are inherently ADA slip and skid resistant. In addition, the pavers are not impacted by freeze/thaw cycles and de-icing salts and chemicals. Furthermore, the pavers are UV resistant.
