Apopka, Fla.—Applications are now being accepted for Brixton Landing Apartments, an affordable community for seniors in Apopka, Fla. The 80-unit property, which is almost complete, is being developed Wendover Housing Partners, a privately held development and management company.
Built to Florida Green Building Coalition certified green standards, all units will include a full-sized washer and dryer, cable-ready features, an island with kitchen storage and an emergency call system. All units are handicap accessible, and the property’s common amenities include a fitness center, library, computer room, and theater.
“By the year 2040, 3.9 million residents age 65 and older will call Florida home, and represent 40 percent of all households in the state,” said Jonathan L. Wolf, president and founder of Wendover Housing Partners. “Wendover is making it a priority to create affordable senior housing facilities now to prepare for the future.”
Apopka is a town of about 48,000 in Orange County in central Florida, and growing fast. In 2010, the population was about 41,500, and in 2000 it was 26,600.
Florida Community Loan Fund provided $1.2 million in financing for Brixton Landing, with additional funding from public and private sources. Roger B. Kennedy Construction began construction on the community in the summer of 2016. The first residents are expected to move in in April of this year.
