Mishawaka, Ind.—The Sterling Group has announced the grand opening of its new $7.5 million seniors community in South Bend, Ind. The community, named Heritage Place at LaSalle Square, is owned by Heritage Place at LaSalle Square LP, whose partners include Memorial Hospital of South Bend and National Equity Fund, Chicago.
Heritage Place at LaSalle Square includes 72 apartments. It offers one- and two-bedroom plans, which range from 675 to 875 square feet. Units include cable and Internet capabilities, emergency pull-cords and call buttons and an intercom system.

As a service to the older residents, Memorial Hospital provides a Resident Life Assistant on-site 20 hours per week. The Resident Life Assistant helps plan social activities, educational opportunities, fitness activities and helps encourage social interaction among the residents. Additionally, Memorial Hospital’s division of Community Healy Enhancement provides a nurse to perform health checks and administer flu shots.
“Heritage Place at LaSalle Square demonstrates our commitment to provide affordable housing in South Bend to the 55+ age group,” Larry Swank, chairman and CEO of the Sterling Group, tells MHN. “Building high-quality, brand new apartments for this demographic and partnering with Memorial Hospital to provide resident services is a win-win situation for the resident and is what makes LaSalle Square unique. This project adds vitality to the neighborhood and we are grateful for our partnership with the City and its community leaders.”
