A NJ Redevelopment Opens in Medical Center Complex

Jersey City, N.J.—The latest multifamily development within The Beacon redevelopment in Jersey City, called Criterion, has started leasing. The property features 271 units in 18 stories overlooking the Manhattan skyline and Liberty State Park. Overall, The Beacon is a mixed-use rehab of the Jersey City Medical Center complex that restores historical features of the exterior façades and public interior spaces at one of the highest points in Jersey City.
Criterion offers studios and one- and two-bedroom units. The community follows the successful lease-ups of four other apartment buildings at The Beacon in the past few years, according to Building & Land Technology (BLT), which is developing residential component of The Beacon.
Like the Mercury, Orpheum, Paramount and Tower buildings at The Beacon, Criterion’s exterior has been restored to recapture the architectural details of its Art Deco-era origin. The apartments feature high ceiling heights, wood-style flooring and kitchens with granite countertops. Each residence also offers central heating and air conditioning, individual washers and dryers, and smart card key access. Rents start at $1,750 a month.
Common amenities include a gym, 18th-floor Sky Lounge offering panoramic views, a Quiet Room, a children’s playroom and a landscaped courtyard with seating, barbecue grills and a fire pit. Residents will also be able to use the building’s Package Concierge, a digital system that notifies residents when packages have been delivered and provides them with 24/7 access to their secured locker.
As a large urban redevelopment, The Beacon includes the 45,000-square foot Overlook Park, which sports grills and seating areas; an additional 2-acre park with children’s playground and organic garden spaces; and two dog runs providing outdoor space for canines.
