Groundbreaking ceremony at Tanger Outlets Memphis in Southaven, MS

City and state officials along with Tanger Factory and Poag Shopping Centers representatives participated last week at the groundbreaking ceremony for the previously announced Tanger Outlets Memphis mall.

During the ceremony, the first 10 tenants were announced: White House Black Market, Guess Factory Outlet, Ann Taylor, American Eagle, Chico’s, Under Armour, Loft, Banana Republic, Columbia and J. Crew.

Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. and Poag Shopping Centers L.L.C. unveiled plans in January to develop a new outlet shopping center near Memphis. The two companies announced the first phase of the project, which consists of 310,000 square feet of retail space that can accommodate more than 70 stores.

The new mall will rise on a tract located in Southaven, Miss., just 4.5 miles south of Memphis. According to Tanger Factory’s official press statement, the project will create more than 400 new jobs during the construction phase and more than 900 permanent jobs upon build out. In addition, the mall is expected to generate more than $7.5 million in additional sales tax per year.

“We are pleased to partner with Tanger to bring the finest outlet shopping to Southaven and the greater Memphis area, our home town. We truly appreciate the public/private partnership under the Mississippi Tourism Project Incentive Program among the City of Southaven, the State of Mississippi and our team. Without the hard work and perseverance of all of the parties involved, we would not be at this construction start,” said Josh Poag, president & CEO of Poag Shopping Centers.
