‘Sustainability Manager’ Named by Southeast Developer

By Erika Schnitzer, Associate EditorCharlotte—To help develop its sustainability initiatives, Crosland LLC, a Charlotte-based real estate company involved in residential, retail, office, land development, and general contracting, has named Jenny Vallimont sustainable manager.Vallimont, a LEED Accredited Professional since 2006, Vallimont leads Crosland’s sustainability team, which is comprised of 16 professionals in multiple business capacities. Vallimont’s first initiative was to create Crosland’s mission statement in regards to sustainability. She has already taken several steps to put the mission into action, including purchasing renewable energy certificates to compensate for 100 percent of the energy Crosland utilizes and establishing a competition to gather eco-friendly ideas from Crosland’s associates. A third program not yet in effect will ask architects and engineers to “go green” in Crosland developments.The trend of multi-housing and mixed-used developers becoming LEED-accredited is on the rise. One of Crosland’s mixed-use associates is already LEED-AP certified and 12 other associates, a majority of whom are in multifamily, mixed-use or contracting divisions, are currently pursuing certification.Crosland is one of the sponsors of the Urban Land Institute (ULI)’s fourth annual Green Conference, held in Charlotte on April 7-8. The company recently led ULI”s international conference, “Building a Sustainable Future,” in Abu Dhabi. Crosland is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.
