Student Housing with a Retro Feel

The Bainbridge Cos. has unveiled plans for a 524-bed student housing development adjacent to the University of Illinois.

Urbana, Ill.—The Bainbridge Cos. has unveiled plans for a 524-bed student housing development adjacent to the University of Illinois in Urbana, Ill. The community, called Campus Circle Urbana, will have 181 units and will be completed in December of this year.

The five-story apartment community will offer units in one-, two- and four-bedroom configurations, and also feature 2,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level and a 291-space integrated parking garage. Unit amenities will include granite countertops, modern appliances and vinyl plank flooring; common amenities will include an outdoor pool and 13,500 square feet of space with a technology area, fitness center and rooftop deck.

Located at 1008 W. University Ave., Campus Circle Urbana is near the University of Illinois Engineering School and two computer science centers. According to Bainbridge, its design is inspired by the retro “speakeasy” feel of Chicago’s popular restaurants and clubs.

McShane Construction Co. will provide all site work, including the demolition of an existing structure on the property, along with landscaping and sidewalks. Charlan Brock & Associates is the project’s architect.

This is Bainbridge’s first foray in the Midwest. Based in Wellington, Fla., the company has developed, acquired, and repositioned multifamily properties in Florida, North Carolina, New York, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. In 2012, it delivered Campus Circle Tallahassee near Florida State University.
