One benefit that comes packaged with living in a large apartment community is institutional quality waste management and trash rooms. Improper waste and recycling practices—on behalf of both residents and management—was perhaps my biggest gripe with living in a smaller building. There is nothing worse than leaving for work on a summer morning than being greeted with the odor of warm trash that was left to fester overnight in your walk-up’s stairwell. Gross. Luckily, my new building has a trash room on every floor with a chute as well as individual receptacles for trash, plastic and paper recyclables.

While this is certainly a much better system, odor still seeps into the hallways, especially on weekends when collection is more relaxed and residents are more likely to be consuming. Thankfully, there is a product from Prolitec Inc. designed to deliver long-term, low-maintenance odor control. Air/Q Trash Odor Control uses patented technology to stop malodors from leaching into common areas and hallways. The product is different than current options for odor-control, such as aerosol-based systems that attempt to drown smells with fragrances. The secret is that Air/Q Trash Odor Control delivers its scent in ultra-light droplets that float freely to every part of an enclosed space, providing uniform coverage as well as intensity.

The droplets are dispersed from wall- or ceiling-mounted appliances. Scents come in ‘Sparkling Lime’ and ‘Grapefruit Fresh.’ The unit features a fully programmable on-board computer that give users the ability to adjust the intensity of the scent effect to meet their specific needs.
