PGMS Chooses Top Condominium, Apartment Complex Grounds

Louisville, Ky.–The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) recently recognized Ocean Edge Condos (pictured) in Brewster, Mass. and Henry Ford Village in Flat Rock, Mich. with Grand Awards in the condominium or apartment complex category of the Society’s 2008 Green Star Awards competition. Palisades Park in Chantilly, Va. was recognized with an Honor Award in the same category.Ocean Edge Condos on Cape Cod consists of nearly 1,000 residences on 429 acres. This landscape has to stand up to the coastal challenges of salt water and wind. The Henry Ford Village includes an Erickson Retirement Community that is home to 1,200 residents on this bucolic 35-acre site. And Palisades Park features attractive street landscaping in this community overlooking the Potomac River, across from Washington, D.C.These sites were honored during the Society’s 2008 School of Grounds Management that took place Oct. 22 to 25, in conjunction with the GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky. The Green Star Awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence, complimenting other national landscape award programs that recognize outstanding landscape design and construction. This year’s program acknowledged the nation’s top manicured grounds in settings ranging from parks to apartment complexes to urban universities. Overall, PGMS presented eight Grand Awards, its highest honor, as well as 11 Honor Awards in seven categories of competition. Past Green Star recipients in the condominium or apartment complex category include Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers, Fla., Post Uptown Place in Charlotte, N.C. and Dorchester Towers Roof Garden in Arlington, Va.
