OC Senior Living Facility to Undergo $30M Renovation

R.D. Olson Construction has begun work on the Atria Senior Living property in Newport Beach, Calif. Plans call for a new South wing and a fully renovated North building.

R.D. Olson Construction has started work on Atria Senior Living in Newport Beach, Calif. The company will replace the existing South building of the property with a new 75,000-square-foot structure encompassing 85 assisted living units. R.D. Olson will also completely renovate a 45,000-square-foot North facility built in the 1960s to include 42 units for memory care and 42 apartments for assisted living. The project’s total cost is $30 million.

Located at 393 Hospital Road and 4000 Hilaria Way, the two buildings are near Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital. Amenities in the first building will include a two-story living room, dining room, library, theatre, activity and wellness rooms, as well as an interior courtyard. The other facility will include similar amenities, along with a nurse station.

“As Baby Boomers continue to enter retirement and require senior care, there’s a high demand for assisted living communities, especially in the beautiful coastal area of Newport Beach,” said Bill Wilhelm, president of R.D. Olson Construction, in a prepared statement.

Douglas Pancake Architects, CT+C Design Studio, EnGeo, KFPP, P2S Engineering Inc., Conceptual Design and Planning Co. and The Dine Co. are among R.D. Olson’s partners in this project, which is slated for completion in the summer of 2020. Atria Newport Terrace Senior Living is the firm’s fifth senior housing project in Southern California. Recently, the company completed Citrine Apartments, an affordable housing property in Healdsburg, Calif.
