Oakwood Worldwide Increases Asian Presence

The company plans to double its portfolio in 2018 with properties, including a 144-unit community in Yangzhou and a 163-unit community Sanya, both in China.

oakwoodOakwood Worldwide plans to double its portfolio of Oakwood Apartments branded properties in Asia in 2018, with an expected total inventory to reach 1,078 keys.

“In our portfolio, we offer a full range of products, each designed to cater to a different lifestyle, from relocating families and travelers seeking a community vibe, to an increasing number independent travelers who treasure mobility, utility and convenience—and this is where ‘Oakwood Apartments’ is the most appropriate product that meets their needs,” Dean Schreiber, Oakwood Worldwide’ managing director, Asia Pacific, said.

New properties are scheduled for both Japan and China, two markets where the company already has a strong foothold.

Oakwood already operates 11 properties in Japan and will be adding two Oakwood Apartments properties in 2018. The 40-unit Oakwood Apartments Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo will feature both studio and one-bedroom units when it opens sometime in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, the 185-room Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Shin-Osaka, the company’s first-ever Japanese entry outside of Tokyo, will offer 59 hotel rooms and 126 serviced apartments when it opens during the third quarter.

Each hotel room will feature a bed and work desk, while the apartments will come fully furnished with a fully equipped kitchen. Amenities include a guest concierge, front desk services, regular housekeeping, high speed internet and a fitness gym.

“We are extremely excited to be expanding our footprint to Osaka after a successful and growing presence in Tokyo since 2000,” Dean Schreiber, Oakwood Worldwide’s managing director in Asia, said. “Our properties in Tokyo have met with immense success and we look forward to what Yasuko-san and her team will accomplish with the property.”

Located close by Shin-Osaka Station, a bullet train station considered the gateway to Japan’s Kansai region, Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Shin-Osaka will enable guests to easily visit other parts of the country.

In China, the company will be bringing its Oakwood Apartments brand for the first time with the 144-unit Yangzhou and the 163-unit Sanya—both the first Oakwood property to be introduced in their respective cities.

There are currently 55 Oakwood branded properties around the globe, including 35 Oakwood-branded properties in 19 cities across 10 countries in Asia Pacific.
