maplewoodWestport, Conn.—Westport, Conn.-based Maplewood Senior Living has announced its intent to develop 27 acres in Southport, Conn., into a three-story, 98-unit traditional assisted living and memory care community. The developer, known in the region for its upscale assisted living and memory care residences, will also work to restore area wildlife and the Mill Pond dam area, which previously housed an Ice House.

The new community, Maplewood at Southport, will be located in the Mill Hill neighborhood next to Mill Hill Elementary.

Once completed, the 92,000-square-foot community will aim to incorporate Adirondack and early 1900s coastal New England resort themes into its design, in an attempt to supplement the current ambiance of the neighborhood.

Maplewood at Southport will include a host of amenities that will feature an assortment of classic finishes including comfortable libraries, coffered lobbies, a timbered great room, gourmet display kitchens and spas that can be enjoyed by residents and guests. The focal point of the development will center on the native wildlife and the pond and will include several terraced gardens and a timber entrance bridge. In addition to the wildlife, the property includes an assortment of old-growth trees and flowering plants.

Maplewood is working with Aspetuck Land Trust, a non-profit organization that aims to preserve open spaces, to conserve a sizeable section of the parcel for public recreation and enjoyment, which could include the incorporation of walking trails and educational opportunities.
