A 36-key resort in Maitland will soon serve a radically different purpose from its original function. Located just minutes from Downtown Orlando, Lake of the Woods Resort traded hands recently and the new ownership has plans to convert it into a substance abuse rehabilitation facility.

Clearwater-based Greene, Canfield, DeGeorge Ltd., also known as GCD Hotels, marketed the property for sale. President Tony DeGeorge, and Vice President Ken Olipra advised and represented the seller as well as the buyer in the transaction. The transaction was worth $2 million — the identities of the parties were not disclosed.

Built in 1990, the limited service resort hotel is located at 8875 South Highway 17-92 on a 2.3-acre lakefront parcel in a bedroom community of the Orlando Metropolitan area.  GCD Hotels advertised the asset as a conversion opportunity for an assisted living facility.
