Legrand to Team Up with Samsung for Smart Lighting Solution

The new lighting product connects with existing smart-home solutions so that lamps, small appliances and whole-home lighting systems can be controlled remotely via the Legrand Smart Lights app or within the home through voice-enabled assistants.

Legrand, a global specialist in electrical and network infrastructure solutions, has introduced smart lighting from their Radiant collection. In partnership with Samsung, Legrand’s product leverages Samsung’s ARTIK cloud services to allow simple connection with existing smart home solutions like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Nest, FitBit and more.

The product installs in place of existing switches and outlets and connects using the home’s Wi-Fi network. These smart switches, dimmers and outlets can be controlled remotely via the Legrand Smart Lights app or within the home through voice-enabled assistants. The app allows users to control lamps, small appliances and whole-home lighting systems. Lights and appliances can be scheduled to go on and off automatically, lights can be grouped and scenes can be created to match routines.

Connected devices

Plug-in units are also available, so that the users don’t necessarily have to replace existing switches. The device is certified from the Open Connectivity Foundation—the industry standard for connected devices—, meaning that Smart Lighting controls work with other OCF-certified devices regardless of brand or operating system.

“Voice control has quickly become the preferred method of control for homeowners. With the capability of connecting smart devices from other manufacturers, homeowners simply speak commands and enable activation of doors, thermostats and lighting for an entire smart home experience,” Gerald Connolly, vice president & general manager, Pass and Seymour, for Legrand said, in a prepared statement.
