Energy-efficient homes are in demand these days, with pressure coming not only from buyers intent on saving as much money as possible but also from the federal government. The Obama administration has been advocating sustainable living and green structures since it took office.

It makes sense, then, that green-minded California would take up the banner as a leader in the green building trend. Figures quoted by The Los Angeles Times indicate that green-certified homes consistently sell more easily and command a higher price. There are no consistent national statistics with which to compare, though, as only California, Washington and Oregon have seen enough sales of energy-efficient homes to be counted, the newspaper stated.

In other real estate news, it looks like you can’t escape the premium prices Malibu demands, even if you’re in a mobile home. Three years after the collapse of the housing market, with “disarray” still the primary qualifier, the Times found a mobile home priced at a staggering $2.3 million. Of course, the home measures an unusual 2,300 square feet and in addition to the extensive living space offers a broad deck and gorgeous ocean views. It seems buyers are interested in the immediate proximity to the ocean these communities offer, and that is showing in recent prices for homes at Paradise Cove and Point Dume Club.
