In December 2013, NCE Realty and Capital Group L.L.C. acquired the long-vacant French Quarter Inn in Mid Town Memphis for $1.9 million. The development group initially planned to restore the hotel to its former glory; however, due to its decrepit state, finally decided against it.
A new vision for the French Quarter Inn has recently come to light, a vision that will be submitted for review before the Land Use Control Board on June 11th. According to the Memphis Business Journal, the new plan calls for the demolishing of the current building in order to make room for Hotel Overton, a five-story, 75,600-square-foot boutique hotel; and an ancillary parking structure, which raised some concerns at a recent neighborhood meeting.
Upon completion, the 134-suite hotel will feature a destination restaurant; a fourth-floor top lounge; a signature pool area with cabanas; a fitness center; a catering space for business and social events; and a bakery and a gourmet coffee shop.
The hotel has been slated to open in fall 2016.
