Enterprise, National Green Communities Partners Win ‘Bridge Builders’ Award

By Anuradha Kher, Online EditorColumbia, Md.–Enterprise and its national Green Communities partners were recently honored with the “Bridge Builders” Award, given in recognition of their joint efforts toward creating and preserving environmentally sustainable affordable housing.Partners for Livable Communities, a nonprofit leadership organization working to improve the livability of communities by promoting quality of life, economic development and social equity, presented the award at its 10th Annual Bridge Builders Awards program and dinner in Washington, D.C last week. The Bridge Builders Award honors individuals and institutions that build bridges of understanding and cooperation across social, economic, regional and racial divides to create beneficial partnerships for the betterment of their communities. “We are pleased to receive this award on behalf of Enterprise and our national partners of Green Communities,” says Doris W. Koo, president and CEO, Enterprise Community Partners. “With the help of our partners, we are able to bring the health, economic and environmental benefits of green homes to low-income people at scale on a cost-effective basis across the country.”Now in its fourth year, Green Communities provides financial incentives and technical assistance to affordable housing developers around the country that build environmentally sustainable homes for families with low incomes. Since the program’s inception, Enterprise has invested $570 million in grants, loans and equity to create 11,000 highly sustainable homes.Green Communities brings together more than 20 national partners from the housing, environmental, energy, green building and public health fields.
