Columbia, Md.—Seawall Development Corporation was recently honored at the White House as a “Champion of Change.” The honor is part of the Obama administration’s “Make It in America” campaign designed to bring together American leaders who create high-quality jobs in the United States. Champions of Change profiles Americans from all walks of life helping the country rise to the challenges of the 21st century by working to out-innovate, out-educate and out-build the rest of the world. Thibault Manekin, co-founder of the real estate development company accepted the award for Seawall’s unique approach to redeveloping historic buildings into office space for nonprofits and housing for teachers.
Enterprise Community Investment, Inc. allocated $9.4 million in New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) for the redevelopment of Seawall’s mixed-use project Miller’s Court, which was designed especially for Baltimore teachers and the organizations that support them.
Enterprise Community Loan Fund recently approved a loan for Seawall to replicate the Miller’s Court model in Philadelphia, and is working with Seawall to expand their work in New Orleans and Washington, D.C.
