Tarrants Bay LLC’s Proposed Norfolk Project

More apartments are coming to the city of Norfolk. According to recent reports, a Northern Virginia developer intends to build a 17-story residential tower on a piece of vacant property it owns in Fort Norfolk.

Chantilly-based Tarrants Bay LLC is the company behind this massive project. Besides the residential component, plans also call for a marina, a mixed-use building, retail shops and parking space, The Virginian-Pilot reported last week. The project’s cost and construction timeline have yet to be revealed. The developer has filed a rezoning request and is expected to go before Norfolk’s Planning Commission on September 24.

The 500,000-square-foot residential tower is the project’s centerpiece. According to the rezoning request, the high-rise will house 450 apartments, and a parking garage on the first level. Meanwhile, the five-story, mixed-use building will feature 256,000 square feet of space and 32 apartments, as well as a restaurant and 3,200 square feet of retail space. Finally, the marina is designed to include 56 boat slips and a 2,000-square-foot store.

If the project moves forward, it will help bring new life to a currently vacant site on the Elizabeth River waterfront, an area the city has long targeted for redevelopment.
