Wheeling, Ill.—Ground has been broken on PhilHaven, a 50-unit affordable and supportive housing development at 2418 E. Hintz Road in Wheeling, Ill., a northwest suburb of Chicago. Daveri Development Group LLC and Kenneth Young Center are developing the property.
The building will be comprised of 50 apartments configured in one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. The first floor will feature the property’s on-site management offices and a variety of common spaces, such as a lounge with an adjacent kitchen, technology center, exercise room, reading nook and a bike storage room.
On-site parking can accommodate 65 vehicles with 50 carports. PhilHaven will be equipped with security technology and an integrated intercom system in each apartment. The property will also include a number of green features, incorporating Enterprise Green Communities Criteria as well as energy-efficient HVAC systems. The landscaping will use a variety of drought-tolerant native plants.
Financing for the project is a complex mix of sources. The Illinois Housing Development Authority, National Equity Fund, Village Bank & Trust, Wintrust Financial, Cook County, Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, and the Corporation for Supportive Housing all provided funding. Kenneth Young Center and Alexian Brothers will provide residents supportive services.
McShane Construction Co. is providing construction services for the project, which is the company’s third assignment on behalf of Daveri Development Group. VOA Associates Inc. is the architect for the development.
