Work has officially kicked off on a mixed-use development that will bring multi-unit residential, office and fine arts to Sarasota’s Rosemary District, Gilbane Building Co. announced. Rosemary Square, located along the Boulevard of Arts, is the joint project of developer Mark Kauffman and Partners, architect Jonathan Parks and contractor Gilbane Building Co.

Located near core downtown amenities, the now vacant tract of land will soon boast 30,000 square feet of retail and commercial office space as well as 50 multi-unit residential condo units—30 of which will be used by the Sarasota Opera to house its artists—, a boutique theater and fine arts. A town square will also be included in the development, creating an outdoor focal point for residents, businesses and the public. The project will cost $20 million according to Herald Tribune.

“Rosemary Square’s convenient location to downtown Sarasota supports the economic growth of the area and local neighborhoods,” stated Tim Hensey, Vice President Gilbane Building Company. “The timing is right for a project like this,” he added.

The development is slated for completion in the summer of 2016.
