Campus Apartments’ CEO Named Homewood Suites Developer of the Year
- May 17, 2013
Philadelphia—Campus Apartments announced that President and CEO David Adelman was named the 2012 Homewood Suites Developer of the Year for Hilton Worldwide. One developer from each of Hilton’s Focused Service Brands is recognized with this honor annually.
After recognizing the growing demand for extended-stay accommodations in Philadelphia’s University City District, Adelman and the development team at Campus Apartments broke ground on the company’s first hotel development, Homewood Suites by Hilton® – University City, in December 2010. The upscale extended-stay hotel, located at 4109 Walnut Street, provides residential-style accommodations for the many visitors of neighboring academic and healthcare institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Medicine and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, among others. After 18 months of development, the hotel opened in May 2012.
In addition to catering to long-term travel needs, Homewood Suites by Hilton® – University City was designed and constructed to meet green building standards. By reducing energy consumption and incorporating a multitude of green features into the hotel’s design, the building is 25 percent more efficient than the current building code, serving as an example for progressive sustainable architecture within the hospitality industry. In November 2012, the hotel achieved Silver-level certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) and became the first LEED®-certified hotel for the Homewood Suites by Hilton brand.
The 110,000-square-foot hotel offers 136 suites averaging approximately 500 square feet each, featuring full kitchens, dining tables and separate work areas with phone and complimentary Internet access. Additional amenities include a complimentary shuttle service throughout University City, a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, 24-hour Suite Shop, business center and approximately 800 square feet of flexible meeting space.
