West Des Moines, Iowa—In April of 2013, BSB Design announced a strategic leadership transition by naming Dan Swift, AIA, the new president and CEO of the design firm. Over the past year, Swift’s responsibilities have evolved to encompass the full scope of firm management. His 26-plus year history with BSB Design paired with his client relations skills and operational and organizational acumen make Swift well-suited to perpetuate the legacy of founder Jack Bloodgood: That everyone deserves to live in a home designed by an architect.

This founding principle of BSB Design guided the leadership and vision of former President and current Chairman of the Board Doug Sharp and Vice Chairman Doug Buster, and Swift intends to nurture the national presence and reputation his predecessors worked so diligently to develop.

Central to this goal is the development of strategically located design studios in Dallas, Denver, Jacksonville, Tampa, Sacramento and Washington, D.C. (design studios in Philadelphia and Orange County are slated to open in the 3rd quarter of 2014), supported by 3 full-service office locations in Chicago, Des Moines and Phoenix managing the production workload and deliverables for clients across the country.

Building on the strength of the firms’ market housing roots, BSB Design is also diversifying with the addition of experienced Market Leaders in Land Planning, Multifamily for Rent, Club Design, Green and Sustainable Design, as well as a Development arm focused on physician-based wellness and stand-alone medical facilities. Swift said of this model, “A team approach gives BSB Design clients a strategic advantage in developing projects based on the firm’s exposure to diverse, nationally-based market segments. This new dynamic allows BSB Design’s high-level, high-skill design professionals to connect directly with clients on the ground while also enhancing production efficiency and quality.”

Swift began his tenure with BSB Design in 1987 after earning his professional architecture degree from Iowa State University, and has worked his way up through the firm from staff architect to business director in the firm’s Tampa office on to Partner in Charge of opening the firm’s Dallas office then to Senior Partner in the Des Moines office. In his current role as President and CEO, Swift has plans to continue increasing the firm’s capability to serve clients on a national basis.

Along with the strategic planning initiatives and his leadership role as president and CEO, Swift plans to stay engaged by providing design services and fostering relationships with the firm’s customers from across the country. He continues his role as an expert speaker at industry events, including a recent webinar for the National Association of Homebuilders and his annual design presentations at the International Builders’ Show. Swift remains passionate about architecture and working alongside BSB Design clients to advance and invent new design trends that will lead to the next generation of client-driven, buyer-focused projects.
