Brentwood’s $61M Civic Upgrade Makes its Public Debut
- Jun 06, 2012
In a bid to create a more vibrant image and revitalize its core, Brentwood has just wrapped a $60.8 million investment in its public buildings and spaces. Located in eastern Contra Costa County, the city of 51,000 marked the official opening of the multi-faceted project last month.
A highlight is the city’s new Civic Center, which was designed by project architect LPA Inc. The Civic Center, which is a candidate for LEED Gold certification, evokes the city’s landmark Brentwood Hotel in appearance. The Brentwood City Park is also part of the renewal, with its 2.7 acres now featuring a new play area, outdoor performance space, barbeques, picnic tables and free Wi-Fi service.
Brentwood’s new projects include the following, as detailed by the San Francisco Business Times:
• City Hall: 60,000 square feet, $28.2 million.
• Community center: 32,000 square feet, $15 million.
• Parking garage: 280 spaces, $9.3 million.
• Improvements to street, landscaping and local business totaling $8.3 million.
Construction was funded by the city, and Swinerton Management and Consulting Inc. served as construction manager. Lathrop Construction Associates was the project’s general contractor.
