Balfour Beatty to Develop Student Housing Project in Texas
- Aug 17, 2017
Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, a developer and operator of infrastructure projects for the college and university market, was chosen by Texas Woman’s University to develop a new student housing community in Denton, Texas. The project, named Residential Village Project, will house approximately 875 students and is slated for completion in fall 2019. Hill & Wilkinson together with architect Stantec will lead the project’s design/build team.
The three four- and five-story Georgian buildings will feature classrooms, fitness center, exploratory learning and recreation space. The development will include approximately 30,000 square feet of residential dining space, as well as pod-style living quarters with small-scale communal baths with private bathroom and shower stalls.
Soccer field replaced with housing units
The Residential Village Project will be located east of Bell Avenue and the dining facility will be situated north of TWU’s athletic facility, Pioneer Hall. The housing units will replace the existing soccer field that will be relocated. The Balfour Beatty team was selected out of eight developers that answered TWU’s request for proposals launched in November 2016.
“In recent years, TWU has used hotels and leased apartments off campus to accommodate our students,” Monica Mendez-Grant, TWU vice president for student life, said in a statement. “This new Residential Village Project will bring those students back to campus and create an environment for our sophomore students that does not exist today.”
