Huntsville, Ala.—The Sterling Group has opened Providence Place Apartment Homes in the Village of Providence in Huntsville. The new property includes 226 market-rate units in 10 buildings, and it features one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts.

Rents at the property will range from $875 to $1,400, with construction slated for completion in May. Four retail spaces are part of the main building on Providence Main Street.

The master-planned, mixed-use Village of Providence is a “traditional neighborhood development.” The goal of such a development is to create a neighborhood that encourages walking and other non-motorized modes of transit among residents and visitors.

DPZ is the town planner, with a design team lead by Andres Duany, an influential new urbanist. The company was founded in 1980 and has designed over 220 new towns and revitalization projects for existing communities.

According to Sterling Group, the location in the village is a significant amenity. The apartments are walking distance to the town center, where residents can access restaurants, salons and other businesses and medical offices. Other features include an outdoor fireplace and grilling area, car care center featuring two car washes—residents aren’t expected to be completely car-free, after all—central garbage and recycling collection center and a pet park.
