New York—Alfa Development recently announced that the first building in its Green Collection, Village Green, has been certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council. The community, located in New York, is the first residential new development south of 59th Street in Manhattan to achieve a LEED-NC v2.2 GOLD rating.
“We are proud to have achieved LEED GOLD certification at Village Green,” Michael Namer, CEO and founder of Alfa Development, says. “We set a high standard for ourselves with this project and we couldn’t have succeeded without the unwavering support of our dedicated partners who believe in our vision, including Gary Spindler of Park-It Management, our team of energy and environmental consultants from Viridian Energy & Environmental, the Stephen B. Jacobs Group and Sideris Kefalas Engineers.”
Village Green, a condominium building that began development in 2009, includes one- and two-bedroom units and penthouse apartments ranging from 730 to 2,000 square feet. Amenities for the community feature a wellness center, which includes a gym, spa, sauna, billiards, and Wi-Fi. Additionally, the building offers bicycle storage for residents.
The community includes green features such as Energy Star appliances and low-emission paints, sealants, coolants and coatings. Additionally there will be lighting controls in common areas to reduce energy usage during off-peak hours.
“Our goal for this building was to create a template for 21st Century, a sustainable living [model] as an example for other developers, and we plan to continue this model for all buildings in our Green Collection,” Namer says.
Alfa Development’s second building in its Green Collection, called Chelsea Green, is also on track to be certified LEED Gold.
“Sustainable living is not only about incorporating energy-efficient amenities, features and appliances into homes or reducing harmful greenhouse gases,” Namer says. “Our Green collection is about providing the best possible quality of life for our residents. We look forward to expanding our Green Collection, and continuing to raise the bar and meet the challenges of sustainable building with each new project.”
