A New Luxury Rental Opens on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

New York–The Corner at 200 West in New York is now open. Situated on Manhattan’s Upper West Side at the intersection of 72nd Street and Broadway and located above a Trader Joe’s opening later this year, The Corner features a sleek, glass design and 16 private terraces along the building’s outer perimeter. The Handel Architects-designed tower, which stands 20-stories tall, was built at an open 118 degree angle, which allows for the two glass facades to present themselves simultaneously while wrapping together to create one continuous and wave-like exterior.

Leading from the lobby to the elevator bank is a “decompression” room — a 200-square-foot arched passageway made up of Riverstone pebbles up-lit with LED lights.

The project features a total of 196 studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom luxury homes that range from 418 to 1,600 square ft. Gourmet chef’s kitchens feature custom Wenge cabinetry, natural stone countertops, porcelain-slate floors, Dornbracht faucets, GE appliances and Liebherr refrigerators, as well as wine coolers and island kitchens in select residences. Bathrooms feature four-piece components including oversized showers in all two- and three-bedroom homes, and secondary bathrooms boasting soaking tubs with ceramic-clad fronts.

All apartments come replete with their own Bosch washer and dryer and are wired for both Time Warner Cable and Verizon FIOS, while three-bedroom residences boast custom powder rooms and the additional convenience of recessed personal safes.  Select residences also feature private outdoor space.

The building also offers amenities such as 24/7 personal concierge service and doorman, on-site valet services for dry cleaning and housekeeping, bicycle and cold storage, and “The Corner Club” featuring a third floor leisure terrace, tenant lounge and fitness center, and a children’s playroom. In addition, there is a 10,000-square-foot landscaped roof terrace, a 12-foot-long misting wall with a push-button cool-down spray, separate barbeque area, bar, sundeck, movie theater screen for outdoor movies, and an eight by six-foot bronze-clad fireplace with seating for up to 20 people as well as space heaters.

The Corner was constructed with many environmentally friendly elements and is expected to obtain Silver LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. A few of the many “green” features include Low-E insulated glass that was used to construct the exterior and has extremely low reflectivity and limits the loss of energy, as well as Energy Star appliances and plumbing fixtures that provide water-savings at 20 percent below the EP Act of 1992 baseline. Additionally, each home is completely pressure sealed from adjacent units and public corridors to prevent a draft and energy leaks from seeping into the apartments.

Then, there is a 48,000 square feet of retail space in the building’s sub-cellar. The building already won awards such as “Best Apartment” from CNBC’s 2009 International Property Awards and garnered first place in the “Green Building Awards” 2009 competition in Perspective New York magazine.
