1st High-Rise Debuts in DTLA $1B Project

The first residential tower in Greenland USA’s $1 billion mixed-use development in downtown Los Angeles is now open. At 6.3 acres and 3.5 million square feet, Metropolis will be one of the largest mixed-use developments in the western U.S. upon completion in 2019. This marks the company’s first U.S. investment, in partnership with architectural firms Gensler and JG Neukomm Architecture and Douglas Elliman Development Marketing.
Located at 889 Francisco St. in the Central Business District, the project’s first of three residential buildings towers 38 floors above the city. The 308-unit building features studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom condominiums, as well as two-story penthouses, with onsite fine dining and retail. Units range from 526 to 1,489 square feet. The tower’s sixth-floor clubhouse, Met Six, offers a swimming pool, cabanas, dog park, lounge, fitness center, steam rooms, yoga studio and meditation garden.
Residents began moving in in April 2017. The development is less than a mile from L.A. Live and a 28-story luxury condo tower which has started construction recently.
The project also includes:
- The 18-story, 350-key Hotel Indigo, which opened in April 2017;
- A residential 40-story Tower II and 56-story Tower III, which are currently under construction;
- Communal gardens;
- A 70,000-square-foot retail pavilion.
The project incorporates engaging art like ConvergenceLA, a 100-foot-wide LED canvas installation created by Refik Anadol Studio and Susan Narduli Studio, that uses historic and real-time data to digitally depict the diversity and culture of Los Angeles.
