Urby, an apartment tower located in Jersey City, N.J., partnered with Airbnb to offer home-sharing services as part of the area’s Friendly Buildings Program. This marks the first new building development to take part in the plan. Residents of Urby will be allowed to share their apartments on Airbnb by renting out a private room or the entire unit for up to 30 days annually. The Jersey City Urby is co-developed by Ironstate Development and Roseland Residential Trust, a subsidiary of Mack-Cali Realty Corp. Through the Friendly Buildings Program, Ironstate will collect a portion of the money residents earn by hosting on Airbnb.
“Urby is a brand that continues to redefine the resident experience, and the partnership with Airbnb is a great example of that,” said David Barry, president of Ironstate Development. “Having the ability to use home-sharing sites has become increasingly important to renters. By aligning with Airbnb, Jersey City Urby is able to give residents this option, as well as simplify the hosting process so they can enjoy their time away from home.”
Located at 200 Greene St., in the neighborhood of Harborside, the 69-story Urby features 762 units comprising studio, one- and two-bedroom floorplans. Apartment features include stainless steel appliances, oversized windows, hardwood floors, a service room, smartphone entry, city views and washer/dryers. Residents have access to amenities such as a communal kitchen for demonstrations and tastings, a fully equipped gym with classes such as cardio and yoga, an outdoor barbecues with fire pits, a woofgarden, a heated pool and outdoor deck, a 9 Bar Cafe and living room, a garden room, car parking and bicycle storage, and the Urby Creative Lab, a space for residents to take part in workshops.
“Airbnb is a continuously growing platform that many residents of Jersey City Urby have used in the past—either as hosts or as guests—and intend to use again in the future,” Barry told Multi-Housing News. “Our goal is to support residents, while ensuring there is transparency with building management.”
The Jersey City location is the second of a planned series of Urby developments set to open. The first opened in Staten Island last year and a new location will open later this year in Harrison, N.J.
