Jersey City Apartments Win National Green Design Award

Jersey City, N.J.—The 131-unit Madox, a new apartment property nearly complete in the Jersey City district of Paulus Hook, has received a Gold Award for Green Design in the 2012 Professional Builder Design Awards. The award will be presented during the International Builder’s Show this January in Las Vegas.

Judged by a panel of prominent architects from around the country, the awards recognize residential properties for their design, as well as success in the marketplace. Madox received high marks for each of the judging criteria, including Exterior Design/Curb Appeal, Interior Architecture, Sales/Marketing Success, Construction Quality/Cost Efficiency and Green Features.

Madox is on track to earn the first LEED certification for a residential building in Jersey City. Green elements incorporated into Madox’s design include a PV Solar Array and vegetation on the roof, electric car charging stations, and systems to reduce water consumption by over 45 percent and energy consumption by 14 percent, according to the developer, Fields Development Group.  The building will also be under contract for at least two years to provide 35 percent of its electricity from renewable sources.

Madox offers units from 480 square feet to 1,312 square feet, with hardwood floors, nine-foot ceilings, and kitchens with stainless steel appliances. Common-area amenities include a 24-hour doorman, gym, library and business center, as well as a residents-only lounge with children’s play area.

Initially priced from around the $1,800s, nearly a dozen residences were leased at Madox during the preview period, a number that’s expected to rise as the building approaches its grand opening date.  In addition to conventional leases, short-term leases with a minimum length of four months will be offered, Fields Development says, providing flexibility to area residents who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy.
