Carvart Textile_Standing Tiles_smallerDifferentiating your asset from the pack is sometimes as a simple as finding and utilizing a unique material in your design scheme. Contemporary apartments, with large social-oriented amenity spaces, can benefit from the transparency and light provided by glass to create a sophisticated open feel within their space.

Carvart, a 20-year-old New York-based architectural glass business, has a wide range of products suited for multifamily construction and redevelopment projects. The firm’s newest line was developed in collaboration with textile manufacturer Designtex. Known as Carvart Textile, the collection gives designers and architects the ability to customize colors, transparency and reflectivity for unique partitions, room dividers, backsplashes, horizontal or vertical surfacing, sliding and swinging doors, bathroom enclosures and even ceilings. The glass is both UV- and moisture-resistant, so it can also be installed in outdoor settings such as pool decks or balconies.

Carvart Metallic_Close-up_GoldAnother recently introduced glass particularly suited for apartment communities design is Carvart Metallic. The line of laminated glass has an encapsulated layer of metallic mesh that serves as a design element that can potentially save energy depending on the location of installation. On the exterior, Carvart Metallic provides color and depth while reflecting solar energy and reducing a building’s solar heat gain. On the inside, the black side of the mesh provides shade from sunlight while maintaining a clear view of the exterior, making the product a good component of a daylighting strategy in common areas. The metallic mesh can also be customized by the designer or architect via digital printing to include words or logos, making the glass a potential way to strengthen your community’s brand. Carvart Metallic is also UV- and moisture-resistant, and meets ASTM standards for safety glass.
