Related Midwest Announces Jacques Sandberg As Vice President

JacquesSandberg_Hi-Res-3 (2) thumbnailChicago—Related Midwest, one of the most active real estate developers in Chicago, announces the addition of Jacques Sandberg as vice president. In his new role Sandberg will head the affordable housing business for Related Midwest, including new development and acquisitions. Curt Bailey, president of Related Midwest, made the announcement.

Sandberg will lead key projects including large-scale public housing transformation, affordable housing preservation, and mixed-income communities. He will play a key role in one of Related’s most high-profile projects in Chicago, the redevelopment of Lathrop Homes, a 32-acre public-housing complex on Chicago’s Northwest side; Related Midwest is the lead developer on a team of five firms involved in the multi-phase revitalization project. Sandberg will also lead Related Midwest’s ongoing work at Roosevelt Square, a mixed-income development on the Near West side that will ultimately include over two thousand for-sale and rental units, and will manage a pipeline of an additional 2,000 units being acquired by Related Affordable Properties.

Sandberg comes to Related Midwest with more than 20 years of experience in planning, building and financing publicly financed projects, and has been involved in the development of thousands of units of affordable housing as well as the construction and rehabilitation of several million square feet of mixed-use facilities.

Most recently, he served as director of real estate development in the Midwest region for The Community Builders, a national nonprofit affordable housing developer, where he was involved in projects including the multi-phase Oakwood Shores HOPE VI development in the Oakland Community and the $50 million acquisition and rehabilitation of the 247-unit St. Stephen’s Apartments at Western and Jackson. Sandberg also held director positions at IFF, a nonprofit lender and real estate consultant; was a partner with affordable housing consulting firm Pusateri Sandberg Development; and served as director of acquisitions for National Equity Fund, one of the country’s largest low-income housing tax credit syndicators.

Sandberg is currently a member of professional organizations including the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago’s Community Investment Advisory Council, the Urban Land Institute and the Illinois Housing Council. He holds a master of city planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor of arts from Grinnell College.
