Carrfour and Pinnacle Open Affordable Property in Little Havana
Miami—Carrfour Supportive Housing and Pinnacle Housing Group have opened Amistad Apartments, an 89-unit property they developed in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. The $24 million development is one block off Calle Ocho, the neighborhood’s main street. It includes units designated for formerly homeless and low-income residents.
Forty-five of Amistad’s units are for families transitioning from life on the streets, with the remaining 44 units for residents earning at or below 60 percent of the area median income. A lottery held earlier this year received an overwhelming response of more than 1,500 resident applications, which is a mark of the demand for affordable housing in Miami-Dade.
Units range in size from one- to three-bedroom apartments. Common amenities include a fitness center, library, multi-purpose community center, barbeque grilling area, children’s playground and game center. The property also offers a variety of supportive services aimed at helping residents maintain their independence.
The property exterior is adorned with a mural and sculpture created by local Miami artists Clayton Swartz and Kench DeGeorge. The life-size mural represents iconic elements from Cuba, while the 12-foot sculpture of butterflies “represents ascension and the upward movement of life,” according to the artists.
Carrfour Supportive Housing is a nonprofit established more than 20 years ago by the Homeless Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce that develops and manages affordable housing with on-site supportive services.
