Affirmed Housing Group to Move Forward with Vermont Villas in Los Angeles

By Joshua Ayers, Senior Editor

Los Angeles—San Diego-based Affirmed Housing Group’s Los Angeles project, Vermont Villas, a 79-unit permanent homeless housing for low-income veterans and special needs seniors, has received 9 percent tax credit funds, which will allow the project to begin construction in April 2014.

According to Affirmed Housing, the project is the first of its kind to come to Southern California, and the third project for the company in Los Angeles County.

“Affirmed Housing Group is proud to again be involved with PATH to be building a life changing community like Vermont Villas,” says James Silverwood, president of Affirmed Housing. “This new community will help homeless seniors and specifically, homeless senior veterans, an underserved population in need of community assistance. Affirmed prides itself on being innovative and original and this community, being the first of its kind in Southern California, will be positive proof of that.”

The Vermont Villas project involves collaboration with Path Ventures, a Los Angeles-based non-profit that works to provide housing options for people transitioning from shelters or other transitional programs. Both organizations recently partnered to complete Connections Housing in San Diego, a permanent homeless housing community that offers housing and interim housing, as well as other select services, a medical center and an industrial size kitchen for residents.

Affirmed Housing’s other communities in Los Angeles County include the 60-unit Lotus Garden in Chinatown, which includes Southern California’s first car matrix, a type of parking system that utilizes a lift system to move parked cars laterally and horizontally in order to maximize a parking structure’s parking capacity.

The company’s other community, Arbor Green, is located in Carson, Calif., has earned LEED Certified and is “virtually net zero,” according to Affirmed Group.
