Product News: Automated Recycling System Expands Space in Apartments
Published: November 08, 2007

Naperville, Ill.— As more importance continues to be placed on protecting the environment, recycling will likely cease to be an amenity—and become a mandate—for those living in high-rise buildings, according to Nu-Recycling Technology Inc. This change will have a profound effect on multifamily professionals, from architects to developers to construction professionals, the company says.

Nu-Recycling Technology is a Naperville, Ill.-based manufacturer, installer and maintainer of several automated recycling systems. The company says that with its NuReTec 3000 Automatic Recycling System, industry professionals will be prepared for this change. Designed to work with just one chute and at the touch of a button, the product allows for full recycling capabilities, including separate containers for various recyclables, while still preserving valuable square footage.

Available in a variety of configurations, the NuReTec 3000 system is suitable for mid-rise and high-rise buildings and is capable of removing nearly 60 percent of the solid waste that normally makes its way to a landfill.

"This system provides the best of both worlds," says Jim Gessner, vice president of Nu-Recycling Technology. "It gives building residents a simple and effective way to help protect the environment, and it gives building owners a system that's easily installed and maintained and that requires little floor space."

With the NuReTec 3000 system, recyclables are kept in perfect condition in separate containers, ranging in size from 95 gallons to 2 cubic yards. With a control panel installed next to the garbage chute on each floor, residents select which container (garbage, paper or commingled) they want to open, and the NuReTec 3000 automatically opens over the appropriate container. The recycling chute is able to deposit to the right, left or rear, depending on space availability and room layout. The system can be installed in new construction as well as retrofitted into existing structures.

The NuReTec 3000 system works with or without a trash compactor and equipment and assures compliance with all state and municipal laws and ordinances.

"Many local ordinances require building owners to provide residents with an effective recycling solution,” adds Gessner. “But, with increased environmental awareness, the definition of 'effective' is going to change dramatically. A thorough recycling solution is no longer going to be an amenity; it's soon going to be a necessity."

According to Gessner, Nu-Recycling Technology has enjoyed much success with builders and developers in the Chicagoland area, as well as in several other areas of the country.

"Builders and developers are now realizing the benefits of this system," he says. "It's extremely forward-thinking and, with the increased demand for green building, it's the answer many of them are looking for."
