Stahl Construction Completes $25M Project for Minnesota Army National Guard

By Gabriel Circiog, Associate Editor

Stahl Construction recently announced the completion of work on the Minnesota Army National Guard Field Maintenance Shop at the Arden Hills Army Training Site.

Located in Arden Hills, the 107,500-square-foot facility was designed by BWBR Architects. The state-of-the-art-facility features offices, classrooms, tool rooms, a fitness area, 36 maintenance/training bays and four warm-up and wash bays. The facility offers a centralized location for National Guard training around the Twin Cities and includes space and equipment to maintain its vehicles.

Gary Maciejny, Stahl Construction’s superintendent, ensured the National Guard’s goals were achieved. Maciejny, being certified in erosion and stormwater management through the University of Minnesota, planned and applied stormwater treatment management methods to protect the surrounding environment and meet the requirements of the Rice Creek Watershed District.

Stahl’s project manager, John Petersen, said: “This project was a coordinated effort between the design team, subcontractors and Stahl. My partner on site, Gary Maciejny, worked with the subcontractors to make sure they understood the work thoroughly and their collaboration resulted in an exceptional project. We were also thrilled to be able to work on a project with sustainability goals. Our stormwater management and building’s green features make it a facility that the Army National Guard can be proud of.”

The $25 million project is expected to receive LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The green features of the project include solar hot water heating, 80,000 square feet of in-floor radiant heating, 40 kilowatts of solar photovoltaic systems and an inverted roof for light harvesting. Rainwater will be captured through two cisterns and then filtered for use in the wash bays and for site irrigation.
