Amazon to Build 1 MSF Distribution Center in Kenosha
E-commerce retail giant Amazon.com Inc. has unveiled its plan to establish a 1 million-square-foot distribution and order fulfillment center in Kenosha. The Seattle-based company will also create more than 1,000 full-time jobs at the new facility.
According to BizTimes, the project’s developer, private equity firm KTR Capital Partners of New York City, recently acquired 158 acres for the facility along Interstate 94 on the city’s far northwest side. Madison-based Next/Partners Inc. sold the parcel for $17.5 million.
Construction is scheduled for completion by next fall. Next/Partners president Phil Jennings told the newspaper that the site could also accommodate a 500,000-square-foot industrial building suitable for Amazon or another large tenant.
“We are excited to join the Kenosha community, creating more than 1,000 full-time jobs at our new fulfillment center,” Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North America operations said in a statement. “We appreciate the state and local elected leaders who have supported Amazon coming to Wisconsin and we look forward to bringing jobs and investment to the state.”
In October, the Kenosha Common Council agreed to contribute $17 million in tax incremental financing to support the project, which could entail an investment of more than $200 million. Another $7 million will be provided in state tax credits, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
